During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned. A real-time procedure was completed on June 7 to reconfigure the battery reconditioning resistors for batteries 2 & 3 to adjust the battery trickle charge current. An associated flight software patch was uplinked to update the EPS fault detection logic on the Reconditioning Resistor Relay configuration. These changes are in response to expected efficiency drops due to aging of the solar arrays. Real-time procedures were executed on June 7 and June 8 to dump OBC-A and OBC-B memory as a follow-up to the patch. The dump will be used to update the baseline memory image maintained on the ground. A real-time procedure was executed on June 7 to perform a routine self-check of the Electrical Interface Assembly (EIA) Sequencer. A Chandra press release was issued on June 6 showing time-lapse observations of the R Aquarii white dwarf+ "Mira". Symbiosis in the system leads to recurrent nova and high velocity flows. Monitoring of the system by Chandra over the past 17 years has led to the direct measurement of material moving away from the system at speeds of 600 km/s and 850 km/s, implying outbursts in the 1950's and 1980's. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/photo/2017/raqr/ The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of CXO J164710.2-455216, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on May 16 and is coordinated with NuStar, and an observation of Jupiter, which is a follow-up to a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity which was accepted on Jan 26 and is coordinated with XMM. |
