Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 1 December 2017 9.00am EST

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

A Chandra press release was issued on Nov 30 describing observations of a pair of tightly coupled supermassive black holes which appear serendipitously aligned with the Andromeda galaxy. New data from Chandra and ground-based optical observations reveal J0045+41 is actually 1,000 times more distant than the Andromeda galaxy. The estimated total mass for these two supermassive black holes is about two hundred million times the mass of our Sun. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/press/17_releases/press_113017.html

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of NGC 3516 coordinated with NuSTAR and observations of GW170817, which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on Nov 16.
