During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned. A Chandra photo release was issued on Jan 10 describing a new visualization which allows viewers to control their own exploration of the center of the Milky Way galaxy. This is a 360-degree movie based on data from the Chandra X-ray Observatory and other telescopes. Scientists have used the visualization to examine the effects Sag A* has on its stellar neighbors. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/photo/2018/gcenter360/ A Chandra press release was issued on Jan 11 describing observations of a rapidly growing black hole, the nucleus of galaxy SDSS J1354+1327. The active nucleus has been seen to transition to an inactive state and back to an active state. The changes in state are suspected to be caused by clumps in the accretion stream. The distribution of matter in the accretion stream seems to be the result of interactions with a companion galaxy.
