During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned. A real-time procedure was executed on Feb 7 to perform a routine self-check of the Electrical Interface Assembly (EIA) Sequencer. There was a press release issued on Feb 8 describing the AstrOlympics project. AstrOlympics provides brief explanations of the physical concepts and then compares examples from common every day experiences, Olympic events, and discoveries from space made with Chandra and other observatories. For example, the rotation section compares the spin of an ice skater to that of a washing machine to the rotating of a spinning dead star. For details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/press/18_releases/press_020818.html. The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of NGC 1313 X-1 coordinated with NuSTAR, and an observation of GRB171205A which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Jan 18. |
