The observing schedule is being replanned to incorporate an observation of AT18cow, which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on Jun 21. Loads for the replanned schedule will interrupt the current load Jun 23. Scheduled observations of PSRJ1048+2339 and CDWFS will be impacted by the replan and will be rescheduled in future weeks. Chandra passed through the first and second eclipses of the season on Jun 18 and 21 respectively, with nominal power and thermal performance. A Chandra photo release was issued on Jun 18 describing Chandra, XMM-Newton and Swift observations of galaxy 6dFGS gJ215022.2-055059. Observers detected an enormous flare of radiation in the outskirts of the distant galaxy, emitted as a star passed too close to a black hole and was subsequently torn apart and partly accreted. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/press/18_releases/press_061818.html A Chandra press release was issued on Jun 21 describing the first Chandra observations of small, but massive galaxies called "red nuggets." The Chandra data indicate that black holes have squelched star formation in these galaxies and may have used some of the untapped gas to grow unusually massive. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/press/18_releases/press_062118.html The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of Fairall 51 coordinated with NuSTAR, an observation of AT18cow, which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on Jun 21, an observation of NGC3893, which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on Apr 19, and an observation of GRB171205A, which is a follow-up to a Target of Opportunity accepted on Jan 18. |
