Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 20 July 2018 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

A real-time procedure was executed on Jul 17 to perform a dump of the IU-A EEPROM.

A Chandra press release was issued on Jul 12 describing follow up observations of RW Aur previously observed five years ago. In the previous observation, the star was a moderate source with most of the emission below 2 keV. In the recent Chandra data, nearly all the flux is above 2 keV and there is a prominent iron feature not present in 2013. This change corresponds with a drop in the optical flux from the star. The authors conclude this effect is due to the collision of two planetesimals including at least one object large enough to have been a planet with an iron core. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/press/18_releases/press_071818.html

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of ZTF18aaqjovh, which is a follow-up to a Target of Opportunity accepted on May 14.
