Chandra press and image releases were issued on Jan 10 describing a "Mini" Monster Black Hole in MRK 462. This is one of the first times that an obscured, supermassive black hole has been found in a dwarf galaxy. If a large fraction of dwarf galaxies contain supermassive black holes it favors the idea that small black hole seeds from the earliest generation of stars grew quickly to form supermassive black holes in the early universe. For more details see: https://chandra.harvard.edu/press/22_releases/press_011022.html A Chandra press release was issued on Jan 11 describing Chandra observations of supernova AT2020mrf. This belongs to a rare class called "cow-like" supernova after the first of its class (SN AT2018cow), which was very bright and faded very quickly. Another feature was a very active, exposed compact object. AT2020mrf is the brightest cow supernova seen to date in X-rays. For more details see: https://chandra.harvard.edu/press/22_releases/press_011122cow.html The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of eRASStJ234403.0-352640, which is a follow-up to a Target of Opportunity accepted on May 11, and an observation of GLEAM-X J162759.5-523504.3, which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on Nov 26. |
