During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned. Real-time procedures were executed on Apr 15, Apr 16, and Apr 17 to complete the dump of OBC-A and -B memory as a follow-up to the Apr 14 upload of the MUPS Effective Thruster Algorithm (META) Patch. The dump will be used to update the baseline memory images maintained on the ground. Chandra passed through the second eclipse of the season on Apr 17 with nominal power and thermal performance. Real-time procedures were executed on Apr 18 to dump and clear the EPS glitch counters following the eclipse. Chandra press and image releases were issued on Apr 20 describing a survey of Chandra data from over 100 galaxies to search for evidence of growing black holes in dense nuclear star clusters. The results suggest a path for forming intermediate-mass black holes --- between the better-studied stellar-mass black holes and the supermassive black holes at the centers of most large galaxies --- through the runaway growth of stellar-mass black holes. If the density of stars in a cluster crosses a threshold value, a stellar-mass black hole at the center of the cluster may undergo rapid growth as it ingests material from the abundant neighboring stars in its proximity. For details see: https://chandra.harvard.edu/press/22_releases/press_042022.html The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of 1SXPS182258.1-13532, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Mar 21. |
