During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned. Real-time procedures were executed on Nov 2 to perform a routine self-check of the Electrical Interface Assembly (EIA) Sequencer and to perform a diagnostic dump of the Control Processing Electronics (CPE). Chandra passed through the 12th, 13th, and 14th eclipses of the season on Oct 29, Nov 1, and Nov 3 respectively, with nominal power and thermal performance. Chandra press and image releases were issued on Nov 2 describing a sample of binary star systems studied with Chandra and XMM-Newton. The two stars that form each binary system are known to have been formed at the same time, yet those stars that are orbited by "hot Jupiters" (that is, gas giant exoplanets that orbit a star at Mercury’s distance or closer) show enhanced X-ray emission. Owing to tidal forces, the hot Jupiter causes its host star to spin faster and produce more X-rays than its companion star, making it appear younger than it really is. For details see: https://chandra.si.edu/press/22_releases/press_110222.html The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes observations of MAXIJ1848-015, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Oct 7 and is coordinated with VLA. |
