Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 11 November 2022 9.00am EST

During the last week the observing schedule was interrupted at 9:35am EST on Nov 6 by a trip of the on-board ACIS thermal monitor after the ACIS Digital Processor Assembly (DPA) temperature exceeded the trip limit. The safing monitor performed as designed and protected the electronics boards from exceeding thermal limits. The cause of the high DPA temperature was inaccuracy in the predictive thermal model used to plan the weekly loads. The model has been corrected to prevent a recurrence. Scheduled observations of B1152+199, TOI1535, ABELL 262 NE1, MAXI J1848-015, Gaia DR2 10025416171, and RBS0315 were impacted by the interrupt and will be rescheduled in future weeks.

Real-time procedures were executed on Nov 7 to reactivate the ACIS Thermal Monitor and to re-enable SCS 107 before resumption of normal operations.

Chandra passed through the 15th and 16th eclipses of the season on Nov 6 and 9 respectively, with nominal power and thermal performance.

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes observations of MAXIJ1848-015, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Oct 7 and is coordinated with VLA.
