Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 16 December 2022 9.00am EST

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Chandra passed through the 28th and 29th (and final) eclipses of the season on Dec 11 and 13 respectively, with nominal power and thermal performance. Real-time procedures were executed on Dec 14 to disable SCS-29 and to dump and clear the EPS glitch counters as post-eclipse season actions.

A real-time procedure was executed on Dec 14 to turn off FSS-A and SPE-B. These units had remained powered on after recovery from the October 2022 Safe Mode in order to collect diagnostic data for FSS-A.

Of note this week was the release on Dec 15 of the Cycle 25 Call for Proposals. The proposal submission deadline is 15 March 2023. In conjunction with the call was the release of the CIAO 4.15 analysis software system, CALDB 4.10.2, DS9 8.4, and MARX 5.5.2. For details see:

A Chandra image release was issued on Dec 15 describing a new study of 10 star clusters that provides insight into how active Sun-like stars are when they are very young. These clusters contain stars with ages between 7 million and 25 million years old. Using combined data from NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory and ESA's Gaia mission, the research results showed relatively constant stellar activity for the first million years and then a decline. The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below.
