During the last week Chandra completed the maneuver-only observing schedule as planned following the recovery from safe mode. Real-time procedures were executed on Feb 17-18 to complete the recovery from safe mode and maneuver to a cooling attitude. Following this a set of maneuver-only loads were uplinked in order to manage momentum and thermal in preparation for the return to science loads. Additional real-time procedures were executed on Feb 18-20 to dump OBC-A and -B memory as a follow-up to the patch applied during safe mode recovery. The dump will be used to update the baseline memory images maintained on the ground. Additional real-time procedures were executed on Feb 23, one to open the MUPS-B iso valve and one to execute an ACIS external calibration source measurement. A Chandra press release was issued on Feb 22 describing observations where NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory helped identify two pairs of dwarf galaxies on track to merge. Dwarf galaxies, which are at least about 20 times less massive than the Milky Way, likely formed larger galaxies through collisions in the early Universe. These newly-discovered merging dwarf galaxies can be used as analogs for more distant ones that are too faint to observe. The dwarf galaxies are on collision courses and are found in the galaxy clusters Abell 133 and Abell 1758S. For details see: https://chandra.harvard.edu/press/23_releases/press_022223.html The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of AT2022cmc, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Jan 6 and an observation of DGPS J172051.4-374340, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Oct 12. |
