Friday 17 March 2023 9.00am EDT
During the last week the observing schedule was interrupted due to high radiation associated with solar activity. The loads were halted at 7:37am EDT on Mar 15 through a ground command to execute the SI Safing SCS 107. This ensured that the accumulated radiation dose for ACIS remained below the allowed threshold. All spacecraft actions were nominal. A replanned schedule for resuming science observations was uplinked on Mar 16 with 83ks of science loss. Planned observations impacted by the interruption will be rescheduled. Following the real-time procedure executed on Mar 10 to patch SCS31 to use Fine Sun Sensor B in safe mode, real-time procedures were executed on Mar 10, Mar 11, and Mar 12 to dump OBC-A and -B memory. The dump will be used to update the baseline memory images maintained on the ground. Additional real-time procedures were executed on Mar 16 to assess the health of the MUPS-B thrusters prior to returning them to service. MUPS-B1, B3, and B4 were tested, with nominal results. Follow-up real-time procedures were executed on Mar 17 to return to the mixed-MUPS thruster configuration and enable autonomous momentum unloading on the OBC. Chandra passed through the 6th, 7th, and 8th eclipses of the season on Mar 10, Mar 13, and Mar 16 respectively, with nominal power and thermal performance. Of note this week, the Chandra Cycle 25 proposal deadline was Mar 15 at 6pm EDT. The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of Terzan 5, which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on Mar 1, observations of SDSSJ142135.90+52313, which were accepted as Targets of Opportunity on Feb 23, an observation of WISEAJ045649.8-2037, which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on Mar 2, observations of AT2020ywx coordinated with VLA, an observation of SDSSJ094533.99+1009 coordinated with the Hobby Eberly Telescope, and an observation of SDSSJ110409.96+4345 coordinated with the Hobby Eberly Telescope. |
