During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned. A Chandra image release was issued on Nov 30 describing an X-ray study of “spider pulsars” in the Omega Centauri globular cluster. Spider pulsars are a type of millisecond pulsar that strips their companion stars of their atmospheres through energetic winds. Radio telescopes first spotted 18 millisecond pulsars in Omega Centauri and then Chandra followed up with its observations. The combined data allowed researchers to better understand how spider pulsars prey on their companion stars. For details see: https://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2023/spiders/ The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below. |
