During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned. Chandra press and image releases were issued on Jun 20 describing a study of 70 young neutron stars based on data from Chandra and from XMM-Newton, with the fundamental goal of advancing our understanding of the composition and properties of neutron star interiors. The analysis identified three neutron stars --- likely more massive than typical for the rest --- with surfaces substantially cooler than the surfaces of others of similar age. The rate of cooling depends on the interior states and composition of the neutron stars and can be used to support or exclude various possible models of the interiors. For details, see https://chandra.harvard.edu/press/24_releases/press_062024.html The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of SS433 coordinated with Swift. |
