Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 13 September 2024 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Chandra passed through the 10th and 11th eclipses of the season on Sep 8 and 10, respectively, with nominal power and thermal performance.

Of note this week was the announcement on Sep 6 of the Cycle 26 Peer Review recommended programs. For details see: https://cxc.harvard.edu/target_lists/cycle26/index.html

Chandra press and image releases were issued on Sep 9 describing the use of Chandra in combination with HST to identify the closest pair of active galactic nuclei (separated by only about 300 light years) confirmed in the local universe using multiwavelength (X-ray and visible light) observations. The pair, brought together by a galaxy collision, are in MCG-03-34-64, about 800 million light years from Earth. For details, see https://chandra.harvard.edu/press/24_releases/press_090924.html

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below.
