During the last week, the observing schedule was interrupted due to a radiation monitor threshold violation. The loads were autonomously halted at 5:25am EDT on Oct 27 by the ACIS radiation monitor through execution of SCS 107 for SI safing. All spacecraft actions were nominal. A real-time procedure was executed on Oct 27 to disable SCS-29, which was enabled during the safing sequence. Planned observations that were impacted by the interruption will be rescheduled. A real-time procedure was executed on Oct 25 to uplink a flight software patch that updates the default initial values of the gyro bias vector. Additional real-time procedures were executed on Oct 26-29 to dump OBC-A and -B memory as a follow-up to the patch. The dump will be used to update the baseline memory images maintained on the ground. A Chandra image release was issued on Oct 28 describing the discovery of some of the most treacherous places for planets in a nearby star cluster. Deep observations from NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory plus optical and infrared data created the best census of young stars in this cluster. Cygnus OB2 is the nearest large star cluster to our Sun in the Milky Way galaxy, and X-rays and intense ultraviolet light can have a devastating impact on planetary disks and systems in the process of forming. For details see: https://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2024/cygob2/ The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes observations of DIRECT V7984 M31B, which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on Sep 30, an observation of EP241021a, which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on Oct 30, and an observation of AT2024qfm, which is a follow-up to a Target of Opportunity which was accepted on Aug 1 and is coordinated with NuSTAR. |
