Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 18 April 2025 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

The Operations Control Center (OCC) was impacted on Apr 16 by a failure of the internet connection between the OCC and CXC facilities in Cambridge as well as to the general internet. The outage, caused by a cut fiber line external to CXC facilities, was repaired by the service provider within 24 hours. The OCC's link to the Deep Space Network remained nominal throughout and there was no impact to spacecraft operations and no interruption of the science program.

A Chandra image release was issued on Apr 16 describing a collection of 3D printable models of three supernova remnants (Cassiopeia A, G292.0+1.8, and the Cygnus Loop) and of a young T Tauri-type star (BP Tau) surrounded by a disk impacted by flares that generate an extended outer atmosphere. These 3D models are based on state-of-the-art theoretical models, computational algorithms, and observations from space-based telescopes like Chandra, and allow inspection and study of the celestial objects from all sides on a handheld scale. The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below.
