Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 2 May 2025 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

A flight software patch was uplinked on Apr 25 to update the on-board gyro calibration misalignment matrix. Additional real-time procedures were executed on Apr 26, 27, and 28 to dump OBC-A and -B memory as a follow-up to the patch. The dump will be used to update the baseline memory images maintained on the ground.

A Chandra photo release was issued on May 1 describing observations of a fractured galactic "bone" known as G359.13. These bones (or snakes) are tens of parsecs in length, threaded by magnetic fields, and are observed at radio wavelengths in the plane of the galaxy. This particular bone appears to have been broken. Chandra observations have identified a neutron star that struck the bone, leading to the fracture. For details, see: https://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2025/bone/

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below, and includes an observation of GRB 250419A, which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on Apr 26.
