During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as
planned.
A real time procedure was conducted on Feb 11 to back out the follow-up observations of the fast turn-around Target Of Opportunity 4U 0142+61, which had interrupted last week's schedule. Analysis of the initial observation of the source on Feb 10 indicated insufficient flux to warrant the followup observations. A Chandra image release was issued on Feb 15 that provides a new look at the famous "Pillars of Creation" and reveals how much star formation is happening in the structures. The combined Chandra and Hubble image and further details may be found at: http://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2007/m16/ The schedule of targets for next week is shown below and includes an observation of Jupiter coordinated with New Horizons and XMM-Newton. |
