Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 13 April 2007 7.00am EST

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

The ACIS instrument experienced an apparent reset of three of its Front End Processors (FEP) during an observation on Apr 7. Since data from the source were being processed by a different FEP, no science data were lost as a result of the event. The following observation reset the FEPs and executed normally, as have all subsequent observations. A real-time procedure was executed on Apr 11 to dump and compare the ACIS flight software and the initial assessment shows no corruption in the software patch list. Analysis of the anomaly is ongoing and focused on single event cases.

Real-time procedures were executed on Apr 9 to perform a routine self-check of the Electrical Interface Assembly (EIA) Sequencer and to verify the value of the CPE warm start count. The CPE warm start count has remained unchanged at the nominal value of 1.

A real-time procedure was completed on Apr 11 to update the on-board Ephemeris.

A Chandra image release was issued on Apr 10 of the spiral galaxy NGC 4258 (M106). The composite visible, radio and X-ray image has helped reveal the nature of the so-called anomalous arms in the galaxy. A second release was issued on Apr 12 of the galaxy NGC 1365 capturing a remarkable eclipse of the supermassive black hole at its center. The schedule of targets for next week is shown below and includes an observation of TVLM513-46546 coordinated with the VLA and a cross-calibration of PKS 2155-304 coordinated with XMM-Newton and Suzaku.
