Operations CXO Status Report, Friday 25 May 2007, 8.00am EDT
During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned. A Chandra image release was issued on May 22 that provides a new look at the Andromeda Galaxy (M31), the nearest major galaxy to the Milky Way. In the composite X-ray and optical image, hot, X-ray bright gas is seen to envelop the central region of Andromeda. Point sources are also prominent, mostly from pairs of stars that are interacting with each other. For details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2007/m31/ The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes two observations of the center of M31 coordinated with HST. |
