Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 13 July 2007 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Chandra passed through the remaining three eclipses of the 2007 Summer season on June 7, July 9 and 12 with nominal power and thermal performance. A real-time procedure was conducted on July 11 to set the short eclipse flag to "true" in preparation for the final eclipse of the season on July 12. A second real-time procedure was conducted on July 12 to disable SCS 29.

A Chandra image release was issued on July 7 of the supernova remnant RCW 103. The Chandra data implies that the neutron star near the center is rotating once every 6.7 hours, confirming recent work from XMM-Newton. This is much slower than a neutron star of its age should be spinning and suggestive that the massive progenitor star may not have exploded in isolation. For further details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2007/rcw103/

Of note last week was the X-ray Grating Spectroscopy meeting held July 11-13 in Cambridge and sponsored by the CXC. The meeting was well attended by over 80 participants.

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below.
