During the last week, Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned with the exception of a 2 Ks HETG observation of the TOO XTE J1550-564 on 5/22 which was was made without the HETG inserted. The reason was traced to a ground system file update process which has been addressed.
The fourth ACIS squeegee mode test was conducted as planned at 5.30pm EDT on 5/22. The test was aimed at removal of a bias instability seen in the previous squeegee mode tests, and initial assessment of the results indicate that the on-orbit data are consistent with laboratory results in removing the instability - i.e., a successful test. Planning is underway for the next series of tests aimed at optimizing the squeegee mode parameters, with certain tests being performed from the daily load. The planned observations for the coming week are as follows. |
