Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 15 August 2003 7.30am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

On 9 Aug Chandra completed the 6th and last eclipse of the Summer 2003 season with nominal power and thermal performance.

A Chandra image release of the Horseshoe nebula was made on Aug 14. The image reveals hot gas flowing away from massive young stars in the center of the nebula. For details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2003/m17/index.html.

Of note was the release on Aug 6 of the CIAO 3.0 analysis software system together with CALDB 2.23. This is a major infrastructure release that includes a new port to MacOS X, a set of high priority new tools and access to many of the CIAO modules via S-Lang to enhance scripting capabilities for users. For details, see: http://cxc.harvard.edu/ciao/.

The observing schedule for next week is shown below and includes a 30Ks observation of the TOO Her X-1.
