During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.
The HRC team is actively investigating the cause for the HRC -Y shutter anomaly and have traced its origin to a limited number of components in the motor control electronics. Since some of these components are used in the operation of the HRC door, the team has recommended that once the door is opened for the next HRC observation it remain open at least until those components are exonerated. While the HRC door will not be moved so that it blocks low-energy protons from reaching the detectors during radiation zone passages, early mission experience indicates that there is minimal-to-no risk of degradation to the HRC from radiation with the door in this open position. The observing schedule for next week is shown below and includes an observation of EXO 0748-676 coordinated with RXTE. |
