Friday 29 May 2009 9.00am EDT
During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as
planned.
A real-time procedure was conducted on May 29 to activate SCS 29 in preparation for the start of the 2009 summer eclipse season. The season will last between May 30 and Jun 28 and includes 12 eclipses. A Chandra press release was issued on May 28 describing the discovery of a cosmic "ghost" surrounding a distant supermassive black hole. This is the first detection of such a high-energy apparition, and scientists think it is evidence of a huge eruption produced by the black hole. For details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/press/09_releases/press_052809.html The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of Abell 2052 coordinated with the VLA. |
