Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 12 April 2010 9.30am EDT

During the last week the observing schedule was replanned to include a series of 5 ks observations of M87 that was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Apr 09. The replacement loads were uplinked on Apr 11. Planned observations of NGC1340, 2PIGG_m1441, RXJ033340.22-391833, and 6dF J0405204-364859 were impacted and will be rescheduled at a later date.

A real-time procedure was executed on Apr 14 to update the on-board ephemeris.

A Chandra press release was issued on Apr 14 describing how Chandra observations have been used to test Einstein's General Theory of Relativity. Via different methods, two separate teams have tested gravity and General Relativity using Chandra observations of galaxy clusters. The results from each show that Einstein's famous theory works even on some of the largest scales. Such studies are necessary to understand the evolution of the Universe and the nature of dark energy, one of the biggest mysteries in science. For details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/press/10_releases/press_041410.html

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes observations of GRB100413A and Swift J1749.4-2807 that were accepted as Targets of Opportunity on Apr 15 as well as TOO observations of M87 and GRB100316d and a DDT/TOO of KT Eri.
