During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.
A real-time procedure was completed on Sep 10 to update the on-board ephemeris. A Chandra image release was issued on Sep 8 of the Rosette Nebula, a star-forming region about 5,000 light years from Earth. The composite image combines X-ray data from Chandra with optical data from the Digitized Sky Survey and the Kitt Peak National Observatory. The X-rays reveal hundreds of young stars in the central cluster and fainter clusters on either side. The optical data show large areas of gas and dust, including giant pillars that remain behind after intense radiation from massive stars has eroded the more diffuse gas. For details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2010/rosette/ The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes several observations of 1H0707-495 coordinated with XMM. |
