Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 24 December 2010 9.00am EST

During the last week the observing schedule was replanned to include a 20ks observation of GRB101219A that was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Dec 19. A planned observation of ACT J0438-5419 was impacted and will be rescheduled at a later date.

Real-time procedures were executed on Dec 17-18 to dump OBC-A memory as a follow-up to the gyro scale-factor and alignment matrix patch. The dump will be used to update the baseline memory image maintained on the ground. A second real-time procedure was completed on Dec 22 to update the on-board ephemeris

A Chandra press release was issued on Dec 20 describing a new study from Chandra that tells scientists how often the biggest black holes have been active over the last few billion years. This discovery clarifies how supermassive black holes grow and could have implications for how the giant black hole at the center of the Milky Way will behave in the future. For details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/press/10_releases/press_122010.html

The Mission Planning team worked hard to develop a 2 week schedule to cover the holiday period as shown below. The schedule includes an observation of Cyg X-1 coordinated with RXTE.
