During the last week the observing schedule was replanned to include
an observation of Saturn that was accepted as a Target of Opportunity
on Apr 22. The replanned loads were uplinked on Apr 29. Planned
observations of 1ES 1553+113, A1914_Field4, and Markarian3 were
impacted and will be rescheduled.
Chandra passed through the fourth, fifth, and sixth eclipses of the spring season on Apr 23, 25, and 28 respectively, with nominal power and thermal performance. A real-time procedure was completed on Apr 28 to update the on-board ephemeris. A Chandra press release was issued on Apr 26 describing new evidence on the origin of supernovas from a Chandra observation of the Tycho supernova remnant. An arc of emission just found in the Tycho supernova remnant provides evidence for what triggered the original explosion. Astronomers think that a shock wave created the arc when a white dwarf exploded and blew material off the surface of a nearby companion star. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/press/11_releases/press_042611.html Of note this week was the release on Apr 26 of CIAO 4.3.1, an update that fixes a bug in the mkrmf tool. Also released was CALDB 4.4.3, which includes ACIS time-dependent gain corrections for the period Nov 2010 - Jan 2011, a correction to the ACIS time-dependent gain corrections for the period May-July 2010, and an update to the LETG grating efficiency. For details see: http://cxc.harvard.edu/ciao/releasenotes/ciao_4.3_release.html and http://cxc.cfa.harvard.edu/caldb/downloads/Release_notes/CALDB_v4.4.3.html The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of Saturn, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Apr 22 and an observation of MAXIJ1659-152 coordinated with the EVLA. |
