Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 3 June 2011 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Chandra passed through the 17th, 18th, 19th (Lunar), and 20th eclipses of the spring season on May 27, 30, and Jun 1 (two eclipses) respectively, with nominal power and thermal performance. A real-time procedure was executed on May 28 to clear a glitch counter that incremented during eclipse exit on May 27. The counter increment is expected under certain timing and thermal conditions. A real-time procedure was executed on May 31 to set the short eclipse flag to "true" in preparation for the back-to-back Lunar and Earth eclipses on Jun 1 and for the remaining eclipses of the season. The Lunar eclipse was monitored in real-time. Chandra was out-of-view with respect to the DSN ground stations during the Earth eclipse on Jun 1. Since the batteries did not reach full charge in the interval between the Lunar and Earth eclipses the battery reconditioning resistors were not autonomously restored to their nominal configuration following the Earth eclipse. A real-time procedure was executed on Jun 2 to reset the battery reconditioning resistor configuration.

A real-time procedure was executed on Jun 1 to perform a routine self-check of the Electrical Interface Assembly (EIA) Sequencer.

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of GRB 110503A, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on May 13, and an observation of Alpha Centauri coordinated with HST.
