During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as
planned.
A Chandra press release was issued on Jul 27 describing results from an observation of the galaxy NGC 3115, which contains a supermassive black hole at its center. The Chandra data has been used to clearly image hot gas as it falls toward this giant black hole. This is the first time that clear evidence for such a flow has been observed in any black hole. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/press/11_releases/press_072711.html The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of IGR J17091-3624, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Jul 22, an observation of SWIFT J1822.3-1606, from a series which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Jul 20 an observation of XTE J1710-281 coordinated with RXTE. |
