During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned. A real-time procedure was executed on Sep 15 to update the on-board ephemeris. A Chandra press release was issued on Sep 13 discussing results from an observation of CoRoT-2a, a nearby star that has a planet in close orbit around it. The star is blasting the planet with an extremely high level of X-rays. This high-energy radiation is eroding the planet at a rate of 5 million tons of material per second. The planet, in turn, may be speeding up the star's rotation, which keeps the star's magnetic fields very active. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/press/11_releases/press_091311.html Of note this week was the release on Sep 13 of CALDB 4.4.6. This update includes ACIS time-dependent gain corrections for the period from May 2011 onward and a corrected temperature range in related ACIS -120C calibration files. For details see: http://cxc.harvard.edu/caldb/downloads/Release_notes/CALDB_v4.4.6.html The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of SWIFT J1822.3-1606, from a series which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Jul 20. |
