During the last week the observing schedule was interrupted by a high-radiation event that activated the science instrument safing sequence (SCS 107) and stopped observing at 02:39pm EST on Jan 27. All spacecraft actions were nominal. A real-time procedure was executed on Jan 27 to disable SCS-29, which was enabled during the safing sequence. Observations of NGC3115, PSR J1650-4341, NGC 7662, and 1RXS J170047.8-31444 were impacted and will be rescheduled. Real-time procedures were executed on Jan 29 to verify that the radiation environment as observed by the HRC anticoincidence shield had decreased to an acceptable level and to start a collection of ACIS CCD charge-transfer inefficiency data. Loads for a replanned schedule were uplinked on Jan 29 with 163.4ks of science loss. A real-time procedure was executed on Feb 1 to perform a routine self-check of the Electrical Interface Assembly (EIA) Sequencer. A second real-time procedure was executed on Feb 2 to update the on-board ephemeris. A Chandra image release was issued on Feb 1 describing an observation of G350.1-0.3, a young and exceptionally bright supernova remnant about 15,000 light years from Earth. Its unusual shape suggests that the debris from the supernova explosion is expanding into a nearby cloud of cold gas. Astronomers think the star that created G350.1-0.3 exploded between 600 and 1,200 years ago. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/photo/2012/g350/. The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of Parenago523_P1 coordinated with OVRO/CARMA. |
