During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned. A real-time procedure was executed on May 24 to update the on-board ephemeris. A Chandra image release was issued on May 24 providing a new composite image of M101 (aka, the "Pinwheel Galaxy"). The image combines data from four of NASA's telescopes in space. X-rays from Chandra show the hottest and most energetic areas of this spiral galaxy. Infrared data from Spitzer and optical emission from Hubble trace the dust and starlight respectively. Ultraviolet light from GALEX shows the output from young stars. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/photo/2012/m101/ The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of M31* coordinated with HST and The EVLA |
