During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned. A flight software patch was uplinked on Jun 12 to update the optical bench assembly average temperature and HRMA and spacecraft strut maximum temperature thermal health-check thresholds. The updates are in response to increasing temperatures due to degradation of the Observatory's thermal covers during the mission. Real-time procedures were executed on Jun 12 dump OBC-A memory as a follow-up to this patch. The dump will be used to update the baseline memory image maintained on the ground. A Chandra press release was issued on Jun 11 as a NASA press release describing observations of two black holes that are challenging the prevailing idea of how giant black holes grow in the cores of galaxies. These black holes are found in the centers of two relatively nearby galaxies: NGC 4342 and NGC 4291. New Chandra data suggest that the growth of these black holes is tied to the envelopes of dark matter around the galaxies, not their bulges. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/press/12_releases/press_061112.html The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes observations of PTF12dam, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on May 29. |
