During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned. A Chandra image release was issued on Jul 30 showing the X-ray detection of a supernova that was first seen from Earth over 50 years ago. The Chandra data suggest a rapidly rotating neutron star was formed by the explosion, which would be one of the youngest objects of this type ever observed. For more details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2012/m83sn. A real-time procedure was executed on Jul 31 to update the on-board ephemeris. A second real-time procedure was executed on Aug 1 to perform a routine self-check of the Electrical Interface Assembly (EIA) Sequencer. The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of UZTauE_P2 coordinated with OVRO/CARMA, and an observation of SgrA* coordinated with NuSTAR, Keck, VLT, SMA, CSO, CARMA, ALMA, EHT, HESS, and ATCA. |
