During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned. A Chandra image release was issued on Dec 6 describing NGC 922, a system at a distance of 157 million light years which was formed by the collision between two galaxies. This system was observed with Chandra in order to learn about the formation of stellar-mass black holes and understand the dependence on galaxy metallicity. Interestingly, the observation results disagree with standard theoretical predictions that the black hole formation rate should decrease with higher metallicity. For more details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2012/ngc922/ A real-time procedure was executed on Dec 5 to perform a routine self-check of the Electrical Interface Assembly (EIA) Sequencer. The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below. |
