During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned. A real-time procedure was used to monitor the momentum unload that was executed from the on-board command loads on Sep 24; the unload performance was nominal. A Chandra press release was issued on Sep 24 as a NASA press release describing observations of M60-UCD1, a type of “ultra-compact dwarf galaxy”. M60-UCD1 may be the densest galaxy in the nearby Universe; this galaxy weighs more than 200 million suns, over half of which is concentrated within a radius of just 80 light years. The density of stars in that region is 15,000 times greater than found in Earth's neighborhood in the Milky Way. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/press/13_releases/press_092413.html A Chandra image release was issued on Sep 26 describing observations of the Neutron star IGR J18245-2452. IGR J18245 displays behaviors of both a "low-mass X-ray binary" and a "millisecond pulsar". X-ray and radio observations were used to supply evidence for this never-before-seen transition between these two states.
