Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 23 January 2015 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Chandra passed through the first eclipse of the season on Jan 16, with nominal power and thermal performance. A real-time procedure was executed on Jan 17 to set the short eclipse flag to "false" in preparation for the medium-length eclipses expected for the remainder of the season. Chandra passed through the second and third eclipses of the season on Jan 19 and 22 respectively, with nominal power and thermal performance.

A Chandra image release was issued on Jan 22 to celebrate the International Year of Light 2015. Each image in the release contains X-rays from Chandra, along with data in other types of light from various telescopes. The images illustrate how astronomers use different types of light together to get a more complete view of objects in space. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/photo/2015/iyl/

Of note this week was the release on Jan 21 of CXCDS 10.3.3 and CALDB 4.6.6 for standard processing, which updates the trending software to handle the wider range of temperature readings implemented by the flight software patch of Dec 8.

The schedule of targets for the next two weeks is shown below and includes an observation of 2MASS J06593158-040527, accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Dec 10, an observation of SN2014C, accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time TOO on Dec 15, and an observation of 47 Tuc coordinated with NuSTAR.
