During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned. A real-time procedure was executed on Aug 19 to update the contents of the A-side Command and Telemetry Unit EEPROM to include a new format 6 configuration. The previous configuration had been used for communication while in the shuttle bay during Chandra's initial deployment. The new configuration will permit more rapid sampling of selected telemetry points to aid in diagnosing conditions on the spacecraft. A Chandra press release was issued on Aug 17 announcing the death of Dr. Stephen S. Murray. Among his many accomplishments Dr. Murray was the Principal Investigator for the High-Resolution Camera on Chandra. The release can be viewed at: http://chandra.si.edu/press/15_releases/press_081715.html Of note this week was "The Universe in High-resolution X-ray Spectra" science workshop held in Cambridge MA, Aug 19-21. The schedule of targets for the next two weeks is shown below and includes an observation of NGC 660, which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on Jul 22 and is coordinated with NuSTAR, an observation of SN2014C, which is a follow-up of a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity accepted on Dec 15 and is coordinated with NuSTAR, observations of SDSS J0040+0059 and SDSS J1332+3928 coordinated with ground-based observatories, and an observation of PG 2112+059 coordinated with HST. |
