During the last week the observing schedule was replanned to incorporate an observation of IGR J17091-3624, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Mar 25. A scheduled observation of SDSS J135646.10+1026 was impacted by the replan and will be rescheduled in a future week. A Chandra press release was issued on Mar 25 announcing the selection of the 20165 Einstein Fellows, who will conduct research related to NASA's Physics of the Cosmos (PCOS) program. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/press/16_releases/press_032516.html A Chandra press release was issued on Mar 30 describing observation of G1.9+0.3, the Milky Way's most recent known supernova. G1.9+0.3 is the remains of a star that exploded around the turn of the 20th century in Earth's time frame. This object is a Type Ia supernova, which astronomers use to measure the expansion rate of the Universe. Chandra data were used to study how the supernova's blast wave interacted with surrounding material, providing clues to the explosion's origin. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/press/16_releases/press_033016.html The schedule of targets for the next two weeks is shown below and includes an observation of NGC 2808, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Mar 28, an observation of M82 offset 1 coordinated with NuSTAR, and an observation of SDSS J1407+1904 coordinated with ground-based observatories. |
