Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 15 July 2016 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Chandra passed through the fifth, sixth, and seventh eclipses of the season on Jul 9, 12, and 14 respectively, with nominal power and thermal performance.

A Chandra image release was issued on Jul 14 describing observations of the Gamma Ray Burst GRB 140903A that provide the strongest evidence to date that violent stellar mergers produce pencil-thin jets. This means that a majority of Gamma Ray Burst sources are not detected because they are not pointed where telescopes can detect them. For details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2016/grb/

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of SgrA* coordinated with Spitzer, an observation of SGR 0755-2933, which was accepted as a target of opportunity on Apr 8 and is coordinated with NuSTAR, and an observation of 2MASSJ00304867+7742 coordinated with MEarth:
