On Jul 23, we celebrated the 17th anniversary of Chandra's launch and 16 years of successful scientific operations. The spacecraft and instruments continue to operate superbly well and we look forward with excitement to the coming year of science discovery! During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned. Chandra passed through the tenth (and last) eclipse of the season on Jul 22 with nominal power and thermal performance. Real-time procedures were executed on Jul 22 to set the the short-eclipse flag to false (Medium), to disable SCS-29, and to dump and clear the EPS glitch counters as post-eclipse season actions. A Chandra press release was issued on Jul 27 describing observations of four low-mass stars may have important implications for understanding the magnetic field of the Sun. Magnetic fields are responsible for solar storms that can generate auroras, knock out satellites, and affect astronauts in space. X-ray emission is an excellent indicator of a star's magnetic field strength. Two low-mass stars observed with Chandra and two by ROSAT showed their X-ray emission was similar to that of stars like the Sun.
