During the last week the observing schedule was replanned to incorporate observations of M82 X-1, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Sep 2. The replanned loads were uplinked on Sep 7. Planned observations of Mrk 273 and Mkn 876 were impacted by the replan and will be rescheduled. A real-time procedure was executed on Sep 7 to perform a routine self-check of the Electrical Interface Assembly (EIA) Sequencer. A Chandra image release was issued on Sep 8 describing observations of an object at the middle of the supernove remnant RCW 103, which is about 10,700 light years from Earth. The object appears to be the slowest spinning neutron star yet detected using Chandra and other X-ray telescopes. While other neutron stars spin multiple times a minute, this object only rotates once about every 6.5 hours. Chandra data showed this object displays properties of a magnetar, a type of neutron star with extremely powerful magnetic fields.
