Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 23 September 2016 9.00am EDT

During the last week observing schedule was replanned to incorporate an observation of GRS 1739-278, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Sep 21 and is coordinated with the VLA and NuSTAR. A scheduled observation of IDCSJ1433.2+3306 was impacted by the replan and will be rescheduled in a future week.

A real-time procedure was executed on Sep 16 to capture transmitter converter voltage data at a higher than usual rate to evaluate performance as the transmitters turn on. A second real-time procedure was executed on Sep 16 to perform an annual check-out of A-side MUPS thrusters, which are selected for use when Chandra is in its safe-mode configuration. Thrusters A2, A3, and A4 were fired. Thruster A1 was not fired due to the expected limited life remaining on it. Thrusters A3 and A4, on the cold side of the spacecraft performed nominally. Thruster A2 on the hot side of the spacecraft experienced some benign gas bubbles on its first few pulses as has occurred in past checkouts. With these nominal results we remain confident that the MUPS-A thrusters would be effective at unloading momentum in Safe Mode.

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of Proxima Cen, which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on Sep 1, a follow-up observation of the TOO that led to the reschedule, GRS 1739-278, and an observation of 2MASS J00240376+2626299 coordinated with ground-based observatories.
