During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned. On Sunday, Jan 15 it was discovered during a real-time pass that the Control Processing Electronics (CPE) Error log counter had unexpectedly incremented by 5 counts. A real-time activity was performed to dump the CPE diagnostic memory. This showed that the CPE had not reset but had experienced out of sync telemetry. Subsequent inspection of recorded telemetry revealed a concurrent single sample of out-of-state values for a number of MSIDs related to pointing control and propulsion. Analysis of this event is on-going, with initial focus on the possibility of a single event upset in the Input Output Electronics. There was no impact to spacecraft health and safety nor any loss of science observing time. Real-time procedures were executed on Jan 13 to disable SCS-29, and to dump and clear the EPS glitch counters as post-eclipse season actions. A Chandra image release was issued on Jan 18 describing deep Chandra X-ray Observatory exposures of two nearby energetic pulsars flying through the Milky Way galaxy. The shape of their X-ray emission suggests there is a geometrical explanation for puzzling differences in behavior shown by some pulsars.
