Q&A: General Astronomy and Space Science

            Q:
I have never heard of any one mentioning gamma rays. Do
gamma rays exist in space?

               A:
There are gamma rays in space, and probably every kind of radiation you can think of. [More information on the electromagnetic spectrum is available at
http://chandra.harvard.edu/resources/em_radiation.html & http://chandra.harvard.edu/xray_astro/xrays.html]
In fact, the most mysterious objects in the universe are
very hot flashes of light that emit mostly in the gamma ray energy,
called gamma ray bursts. We have a description of gamma ray
bursts at
http://chandra.harvard.edu/xray_sources/grb.html
