During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as
planned.
Real time procedures were conducted on 22 Oct to dump 5 hours of science data that had been lost due to a DSN anomaly from SSR-A following the swap to SSR-B on Oct 18. All the data were recovered and verified. A Chandra image release was issued on 23 Oct of a new composite X-ray and optical image of the supernova remnant G292.0+1.8. For details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2007/g292/ A Chandra press release was issued on 25 Oct describing Chandra and Spitzer observations of the Great Observatories Origins Deep Survey (GOODS) field. The Chandra data have have resulted in the identification of hundreds of obscured AGN embedded in galaxies detected through their infrared signature by Spitzer. For details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/press/07_releases/press_102507.html Of note this week was the Chandra 8-Year Symposium held in Huntsville, AL. The meeting was very well attended and the range and quality of the science presented was outstanding. The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes a series of observations of Venus. |
